FAQ

What does 'Custom Made' or 'Order in Dress' mean?

We offer a range of dresses which are 'Order in'.  An Order in dress is made specifically for you by our own supplier. based on the measurements we take from you, the dress maker then uses their pattern that is closest to your measurements to create your gown. We can then fit it to perfection for your body using alterations – which is an additional cost.

They are in no way Made to Measure and this is a service which we have never offered.

Depending on availability we may or may not be able to fit you in to get alterations with us, so I would always book in advance to ensure your space.

It is also important to know that our dress maker only works Tuesday - Friday 10am - 5pm so it is important for you to have/make availability during these times if you would like your dresses to be altered with us.

Some FAQ’s:

When shall I schedule my first fitting?

We’ll contact you when your dress is in and ready for you to schedule a fitting; generally, that will be about 4-6 weeks before your wedding day. If your dress has been ordered in advance, and your wedding is more than 12-14 weeks away – then you would take your dress away and reschedule for a fitting closer to the time.

What should I bring to my first fitting?

You should bring the shoes and undergarments you’ll wear on your wedding day – underwear and any petticoat -  in order to have your gown properly fit through the bodice and hemline. Plan to come to the store at least 30 minutes before your fitting appointment to get them, if you haven’t already.

How many fittings will I need?

Usually, you would require 2-3 fittings to ensure a perfect look - although we do try to limit that number. After the final fitting, we will press and pack your gown for you to take home.

How much will alterations costs?

We charge by the hour and by what needs done, you would always need to have an appointment with the dress maker to be given an accurate quote.

Do I need to get my alterations done with That Special Day?

No. You can get your alterations done wherever, but it is good to know that getting alterations done with us you would be in the hands of a very skilled dress maker with over 25 years of experience, and if anything did (which it hasn’t yet) go wrong with your dress, then we would cover the replacement and get you a brand new dress. This is something which other seamstresses cannot offer.
